Adath Israel Joins This Year’s Shabbat Project Experience

Congregation Adath Israel of Elizabeth/Hillside had the privilege of participating in this year’s Shabbat Project last weekend. The community kicked off the Shabbat Project with a Kids Challah Bake organized by the Adath Israel youth department in partnership with the Union YM-YWHA and other local community shuls, last Thursday night. Children from all over the community were invited to make their own dough and braid it. While the dough was rising, the kids were able to partake in some great activities. This included a bingo game, complete with prizes, and coloring cards to be packed with meals that will be delivered to older community members. The children left with the challot that they made on their own and enjoyed eating it on Friday night!

The fun continued with a Friday night youth oneg, hosted by the Pinsker family. Children and adults enjoyed the singing, food and the Shabbat atmosphere. It was great to see parents and children singing together and getting into the spirit of the Shabbat Project!

Lastly, the community engaged in a Share a Meal program where over 80 people ranging from infants to grandparents participated in a blind matchup for lunch. New and seasoned residents of the community came together to meet new friends and neighbors and spend time having a Shabbat meal together.

Being a part of this year’s Shabbat Project allowed for a strong focus on strengthening and uniting all members of our community, young and young at heart. We can’t wait to celebrate again together next year!
