An Important Ambassadorial Appointment

The announcement of David Friedman, President-elect Donald Trump’s choice for U.S. ambassador to Israel, could not have come at a more critical time.

While the American left wing is pointing out that Friedman, a bankruptcy attorney, has no political experience, we suggest looking at the waning Israel-U.S. administration relationship of the past eight years as a suggestion that it’s time to try a different direction, something new. State Department diplomacy has done little in recent memory to bring the U.S. and Israel closer.

Friedman, who has supported the strong Jewish communities of Judea and Samaria, who believes that the U.S. Embassy needs to be moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, and who is not a proponent of the two-state solution, brings an entirely new outlook to the role of U.S. ambassador to Israel. Remember, he will represent the Trump administration, following the lead of our new president. Also, remember, he is not a newcomer to issues of Israel. He’s not been working in the State Department and isn’t looking to turn this job into another plum foreign assignment.

As a Zionist, he has had the President-elect’s ear for many years. His passion for the well-being of the Jewish state undoubtedly had a great deal to do with his proposed appointment. He’s getting one of the world’s most important ambassadorial appointments because he knows what is going on there. Friedman isn’t going to have to read up on Israel. He’s been there. He owns a home there. He already comes in with a strong background.

This isn’t just another job for him.

It’s the job.

And we’re confident he will help President Trump move the two nations back onto the same political page, working against terror, putting a stop to the Iranian nuclear deal and, once and for all, moving the embassy to Jerusalem, where it truly belongs. With the appointment of Friedman, the soon-to-be inaugurated President Trump is already coming through for Israel and the Jewish people.
