Author Rachel Burk Visits RYNJ

RYNJ first through third grade students were treated to a fun Zoom visit from author Rachelle Burk. During her lively presentation, Burk demonstrated how authors (you don’t need to be an adult to be an author!) can get ideas and inspiration for writing. Sometimes inspiration comes from travel or sometimes you can get ideas from your sock drawer! Burk writes a whole array of books: picture books, biographies, novels, poetry and science articles for kids’ magazines, like Highlights. The first and second graders read her book, “The Tooth Fairy Trap” before her visit. After Burk’s presentation to them, she showed some of her “real Tooth Fairy” letters. The third grade read her semi-biographical book “The Tree House in the Storm” before her visit. Burke then presented students with photographs which were the basis for that story. She showed the students her “frog” collection from around the world and both presentations ended with some fabulous questions from students.
