BCHA Upper School Students Tackle Mental Health Awareness

Fifty % of mental illnesses start before the age of 14, and often, it takes years before people receive proper treatment. In response to the need to raise awareness around mental health issues and provide support for students, BCHA junior Menucha Goldberg and senior Jaime Zaritsky are starting a “Bring Change to Mind” (BC2M) club at BCHA. BC2M is a national organization with a mission to end stigma and discrimination surrounding mental illness. BCHA upper school was recently selected to join the BC2M network of peer-led mental health clubs now running at over 300 high schools around the country, and the club is set to launch right after the chagim. According to Goldberg, “After we ran a successful mental health awareness day last year, we realized how valuable it would be to continue to discuss these issues weekly. I hope that this group will help students to not be afraid to discuss mental health and encourage more openness around these issues.”
