Rabbi Dr. Dovid Katz to Join BMOB as Scholar-in-Residence

Rabbi Dr. Dovid Katz will be a scholar-in-residence at Bais Medrash of Bergenfield (BMOB) on Shabbos, July 18. Rabbi Katz will speak immediately following Mussaf on “A Tale of Wine and Vinegar in the Twentieth Century: The Remarkable Abramskys.” He will also speak on Shabbos afternoon at 7:10 p.m. on “Beyond Yeshivish: R’ Yisroel Salanter, R’ Avraham Elya Kaplan and Thinking Out of the Box.” He will then speak after Mincha at 8 p.m. on “High-Class Wedding ‘shtick’ in Baroque Padua: Reflection’s on Luzatto’s לישרים תהילה.”

Rabbi Katz is the Rabbi of Congregation Beth Abraham in Baltimore and a professor of Jewish history at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland. Rabbi Katz’s weekly lectures on Jewish history in Baltimore draw hundreds of people from a cross section of Baltimore’s Jewish community. BMOB is located at 371 South Prospect Avenue in Bergenfield.

Shabbat Chazon Shiur

The Adult Education Committee and Beis Medrash Program of Congregation Bnai Yeshurun will host on Shabbat Chazon (July 25) Rabbi Yehoshua Pfeffer, senior director of the Tikva Fund and dayan on the beit din of Rav Asher Weiss, who will speak on “Why We Cry on Tisha B’Av” after the 8:30 a.m. Ashkenaz minyan.

Weekly Shabbat Shiur

The Anshei Lubavitch Congregation has re-started a new shiur on Shabbat afternoon. “Jewish Law From the Source” covers many topics about daily conduct. Rabbi Bergstein will share learnings from the Shulchan Aruch. The shiur is one hour before mincha at 10-10 Plaza Road, Fair Lawn, New Jersey.

‘Shanghai Miracle’ to Be Screened

Congregation Beth Aaron will be screening “Shanghai Miracle,” a film detailing the story of the hundreds of Mir Yeshiva students who escaped to Shanghai, China, and lived to rebuild Torah throughout the world. The film will be on Sunday, July 19, at 8:45 p.m. at 950 Queen Anne Road, Teaneck, NJ.

Three-Part Series Offered by the Jewish Learning Experience

The Jewish Learning Experience is continuing their three-part series on “Exploring the Principles of Faith According to Maimonides” on July 19 and August 12 at 9:30 a.m. The classes will be given by Rabbi Pietruszka at the Bais Medrash of Bergenfield, 371 South Prospect Avenue, Bergenfield. Rabbi Dr. Abraham Twerski to Speak at Congregation Rinat Yisrael

Rabbi Dr. Abraham Twerski will speak on “Partners With Hashem” on Sunday, July 19 at 8:30 p.m. The program is sponsored by Lema’an Achai (www.smartchesed.org), an organization based in Beit Shemesh that assists Israeli families who live at least 10% below the poverty line. Ambassador Bradley Gordon to Speak on Iran Negotiations

Ambassador Bradley Gordon, Director of Policy & Government Affairs at AIPAC, will speak on “What’s the Deal? What Has Happened? What Will Happen?” on Wednesday, July 22, at 7:00 p.m. This program about understanding the Iran nuclear negotiations and deal is sponsored by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee and the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey. Tisha B’Av Youth Program

Congregation Bnai Yeshurun (CBY) will be hosting a Tisha B’Av youth program for rising 1st–4th graders in the CBY classrooms and social hall. There will be a magician, games, snacks and arts and crafts. There are limited spots available; registration for CBY Members only until July 15. CBY Members $15/Non-Members $20. Join Manhattan Rally for Peace and Strength

A massive gathering to prevent a Nuclear Iran, entitled “Rally for Peace and Strength,” will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 5:30 p.m., in Times Square, 42nd. Street and 7th Ave, NYC.  The event is being organized by the Jewish Rapid Response Coalition along with over 50 sponsoring organizations. There will be a host of noted speakers, including  Pete Hoekstra, former US Congressman and Chair of the House Intelligence Committee; Caroline Glick, journalist and author and Paul Vellely, Retired US General and Chairman of Stand Up America. According to organizer Jeff Wiesenfeld, “The Administration is prepared to give Iran effectively all that it needs to get to the bomb, and to release $150 billion, which Iran would use to expand worldwide terror to untold proportions. We must speak out now.”

Congregation Keter Torah will be presenting an exclusive Tisha B’Av showing of Once Upon A Family—The Saga of Polish Jewry, a riveting documentary, produced by Project Witness, commemorating 70 years since the destruction of Polish Jewry.
