Elana Silber Appointed Sharsheret’s Executive Director

Elana Silber, who was previously Sharsheret’s Director of Business Operations, has been appointed executive director, following the tragic passing of the organization’s founder Rochelle Shoretz a”h. Silber came to the organization as a volunteer thirteen years ago. “We have worked hard growing Sharsheret from a handful of volunteers to the national organization it is today, with twelve support and education programs serving more than 50,000 women, families, health care professionals, community leaders and students on campus; a multi-year federal grant from the CDC; and a 4-star high ranking from Charity Navigator,” she said in a statement. She plans to implement the organization’s newly completed strategic plan and indicated she is looking forward to beginning a new phase of growth and expansion.

2015 Fair Lawn Young Families Host Annual BBQ

The Shomrei Torah Community is hosting their annual BBQ on August 16th from 3:30pm-5:30pm. The BBQ includes Elul crafts for the kids. The cost is $10 per person for members/$12 per person for non-members. The family max is $25 for members/$30 for non-members. Children under five come free. For people who have moved to Fair Lawn in the last year, the BBQ is FREE. It will be hosted at the home of Daniel and Rachel Krich, 6 Bryson Rd. To register, go to http://www.shomrei-torah.org.

Shatnez, Tefillin and Mezuzah Check in Fair Lawn

Congregation Shomrei Torah will be hosting a shatnez, tefillin and mezuzah check on Sunday, August 30. It will be from 9am to 11am in the social hall. Each mezuzah is $11, tefillin ranges from $85-$135. For shatnez, the price varies on the item.There will be special presentations for children of all ages. The tefillin presentation will be from 9am-9:30am and the shatnez presentation will be from 9:45-10:15am. Tables will also be set up in the social hall so people can update their Aliyah Card, sign up to layn on Shabbat and Yom Tov and volunteer for upcoming Shomrei Torah and Sisterhood events. Sofrim and shatnez checkers will try their best to have everything finished within the day, depending upon volume. No Shekel Left Behind Program

Have some shekalim or Euros left over from a recent trip? Your loose change and paper money can add up and will help refurbish the Youth Center in Beit Yatir, Beth Aaron’s sister town in Israel. Mail in or drop off your shekalim or Euros at the Beth Aaron office at 950 Queen Anne Road, Teaneck. Donations in dollars also will be accepted.
