Bi-Cultural Hebrew Academy of Connecticut

At Bi-Cultural Hebrew Academy (BCHA), students are inspired to think, analyze and question. In an atmosphere that celebrates learning, friendship, the joy of Jewish life and an abiding connection with Israel, our children and young adults thrive.

The awards our students win, the Israel experiences they engage in, the top colleges they attend and the subsequent achievements in their professional lives are all a testament to the strong foundation they receive while at BCHA.

BCHA strives to provide students with an education of the highest caliber in both general studies and Judaic studies. Through a challenging, innovative, inspiring and well-rounded program all children are supported in fulfilling their unique potential.

We welcome the entire spectrum of our Jewish community, while guided by the principles of Modern Orthodoxy. We are a vibrant and embracing school “family.” Our program is framed by Torah values—which from the earliest grades interweaves Hebrew language, textual study, Jewish history and an enduring connection with Israel. We take pride in producing kind and responsible leaders for the future who are successful in the classroom, confident in who they are, proud of their heritage and deeply engaged in improving the world.

Pre-k marks a child’s entrance into a magical world of learning, caring and sharing. Our safe, warm and fun environment sets the stage for children to grow and blossom. Each student’s social, emotional and spiritual growth is nurtured through knowledge, exploration and wonder.

In the BCHA lower school, the goal is for students to become self-directed and independent learners. With a balance of academic, social and creative opportunities, students build the foundation of healthy study habits, as they learn how to concentrate and navigate challenges.

Lower school Judaic studies are a celebration of all aspects of Jewish life—from joyfully experiencing the rhythms of the Jewish calendar, to delving into the stories of our sages, to understanding the breadth of Jewish texts and the relevance of Halacha (Jewish law). From celebrating their very first Siddur to their first reading of a Gemara, we reach for excellence and a confident mastery of Jewish learning skills.

BCHA middle school students study their core subjects at a level exceeding state and national standards. Middle schoolers begin their journey to becoming the Jewish community leaders of tomorrow, while successfully pursuing the professional goals that are consistent with their interests and talents.

At our dual-curriculum school, BCHA middle school students delve deeply into Hebrew language, Jewish text and culture with a strong emphasis on positive character building. Respect and love for tradition and the principles of Modern Orthodoxy form the context for engagement and study of Torah, with the core values of Torah U’Madda, Zionism and Ahavat Yisrael.

BCHA Upper School offers a rigorous academic program with a focus on developing skills of critical reasoning and argumentation, while engaging students in advanced academic content. Students study English language, history/civics, mathematics, science and world language, meeting or exceeding public high school (and many private school) requirements in these core subject areas. We provide numerous opportunities to deepen the academic experience through electives, AP classes and university-level courses (through the UConn Early College Experience).

The upper school prides itself on its diverse yet cohesive Jewish student body. All Jewish students, regardless of affiliation or background, are welcome.

If you are looking for a school with a personalized approach to education in which students are encouraged and supported to be and become their very best, we invite you to explore what our school has to offer.
