This Chanukah, first-grade students in the math enrichment program at BPY took their math skills to a whole new level with a festive and fun challenge. In a special classroom project, students were tasked with writing and solving their own number sentences using Chanukah-themed pictures. Using symbols like dreidels, menorahs and gelt, the children created and solved math problems that combined the holiday spirit with key math concepts like addition, subtraction and even multiplication. This hands-on activity not only deepened their understanding of numbers but also gave students a chance to learn about Chanukah traditions in a fun, creative way. By connecting math to the holiday, the students were able to engage with the subject matter in a meaningful and enjoyable way, reinforcing problem-solving skills and mathematical operations in an interactive setting.
