BPY Creates Ancient Egypt Museum

In their ongoing study of ancient civilizations, the sixth graders of Ben Porat Yosef recently studied the geography and history of ancient Egypt. They learned about pyramids, an architectural feat of the time, and had a virtual visit from Meg Watters, an archaeologist who worked at Giza. As a culminating activity, the students set up a gallery in their classroom museum. There were many pyramids, each one distinct, whether in style, material or details. Also displayed were temples, works of art, a 3D map, a mini Egypt museum, a comic strip, an interactive station showing the steps of mummification, and more.

The projects were on display for the entire middle school to view. One student commented how great it was to learn about the ancient civilization in time for Pesach. Another student added, “It could give you a glimpse into the perspective of the Egyptians.” A third student agreed and said, “It made the story of Yetziat Mitzrayim seem more real.”
