At BPY, first and second grade mathematicians shared their love of math with their parents at the Family Math Night. The packed auditorium was buzzing with excitement as parents and children explored the many facets of geometric shapes. By reading “The Greedy Triangle,” Mrs. Maron introduced the students to the names of the polygons that they would be working with. The story both described a variety of polygons and helped the children make real life connections between the shapes and objects that surround them. Seated around rectangular and round tables, the students munched on different shaped snacks while playing shape-based games with their parents. The children proudly used their math vocabulary as they played Guess Who? and created polygons with Wikki Stix. Even the dice that were used were made up of so many shapes! It was heartwarming to watch the children and their parents learn together. A special thank you to the BPY teachers who help make math meaningful for the students.
