Ben Porat Yosef second grade students enjoyed a special coin-inspired “show and tell” on Friday, June 1. Students brought in their own special coins and bills to exhibit and presented some facts about these coins from all over the world, including ancient and modern Israeli coins and some early coins used as currency in the United States. Morah Aliza Strassman brought in unusual coins, provided by a numismatist (coin collector), and students also designed their own coins using pictures, symbols and words that represent them, based on all that they had learned about coin currency.
Finally, class parent, Joseph Rosenfeld, brought in part of a coin collection accumulated by his own father and provided the class with a view of many special coins and an appreciation for an interesting and unique hobby. Through this study the students enjoyed work which integrated math, history and new vocabulary.
