BPY Students Create a Chain of Courteous Actions

Second grade’s midah of the week was being courteous. The students discussed this midah during morning and afternoon meetings and also during reading workshop as part of their unit on character traits. The class read the book, “The Last Stop on Market Street” by Matt de la Peñawe, As the book was read aloud, the students had clipboards and pencils in hand to take note of the courteous acts in the book. After reading, they compiled a list of the different acts of courtesy and also came up with more that were not listed in the book. Finally, each student had the opportunity to create his or her own card with one example of courtesy and a matching picture to be added to a large courtesy chain. Just like a chain is connected and can continue forever, our courteous actions and words can create a chain reaction of more courteous actions and words.
