BPY families had a jammed-packed Sunday by first welcoming the community and Hackensack River keeper-volunteers to collect garbage from the Van Saun Mill Brook at the annual river cleanup. Garbage is washed into the area by wind and periodic rain events. Students especially looked forward to wearing borrowed waders to collect in the brook. The highlights of the “haul” were an old typewriter, tiles, tires and a wired bakers rack.
Later in the day, BPY families and the community came together to create lanterns and embrace the new darkness of daylight savings together on their lantern walk. Over 80 people joined to design beautiful lanterns and explore the magnificent BPY trails and woods at sunset. As the sun went down and the sky got darker, the collective lights of the lanterns shined brighter and brighter. What a wonderful way to celebrate this special change in seasons!
