Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

Bruriah Basketball Report

The Bruriah “B” Lightning improved its record to 2-0 with another win on the road, this time against the feisty Cyclones from Shulamith of Brooklyn. The Lightning jumped out to a quick 10-point lead and never looked back. Senior Avigayil Wiener from Teaneck led a balanced scoring attack with 12 points. Shira Alter scored 6 points all on layups in the 4th. Other scorers include freshmen Talya Markowitz, Rina Finkelstein, Sarena Wiederkehr, and Gila Alter; sophomore Hindy Goldberg; juniors Elisheva Pfeiffer, Shayna Schwartz, Shayna Rosenzweig, and Rachel Eckstein; and senior Elana Rutner. Bruriah hosts Shalheveth at home on 11/10.

The Bruriah “A” Lightning mounted one of the most outrageous comebacks ever during its home opener against SAR. Senior Captain Nikki Bick led a campaign to come from 16 points down. She tied the game at the foul line with 20 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime. Bruriah trailed the entire game and was down by 2, 5, or 7 for most of it. SAR scored the first 6 points in overtime and never looked back. Bruriah drew to within 2 before foul trouble sent two starters to the bench for good, leaving SAR to win the game from the line. In addition to Bick’s outstanding performance, fellow starters Dani Berlin, Tovah Weiskopf, Michal Hyman, and Ally Orgel put on a show of their own during the comeback. Tali Becker, Chaya Levin, Nechama Maryles, and Shira Hagler conributed key minutes.
