Senior Seminar is a long standing-tradition at Bruriah High School. The seminars, which recently concluded, are run by teacher and grade adviser Bracha Avraham. They are once-weekly sessions during which the school’s seniors hear from a variety of speakers on topics ranging from halacha to hashkafa. The goal is to give the students practical information and inspiration on important and relevant matters before entering the broader world.
Throughout the course of the year, the students were privileged to hear from experts on a variety of topics. They heard from Reva Judas, founder of Nechama Comfort, about how she founded the organization after losing her newborn son Pesach, a”h only hours after he was born. She taught the girls about facing adversity and how best to support friends who may be going through challenges. Bruriah alumnus Atara (Goldstein) Steiner, who works for ORA, the Organization for the Resolution of Agunot, educated the students on the halachot of gittin and the importance of halachic prenups. They heard from the distinguished Dr. Berish Rubin about his pioneering work in the field of Jewish genetic testing. He helped the girls understand the importance of getting tested before marriage.
They also heard from thought leaders who are making a difference in the Jewish world, whether in schools or at different organizations. The topics ranged from emunah to hilchot kriyat shemah. The students were also fortunate to learn from rabbanim from various seminaries in Israel.
At the start of the year the girls received custom notepads that they would bring to each session in order to take notes. Their notes were collected and will be given back to them at the close of senior year, a gift for them to treasure—moments of inspiration that will likely create lifelong impact.
