Bruriah Hosts College Fair for Juniors

To both prepare juniors and help navigate a stressful time in their lives, Bruriah hosted a college fair for juniors and their parents. Current and former Bruriah students opened the evening’s program. Chana Ross (‘16) spoke about being a student at Rutgers University; Shoshana Rapps (‘16) spoke about being a student at Stern and why she chose a Jewish campus. Shaina Levin (‘18) spoke about how the college-application process allowed her time for a lot of introspection as she wrote her college and Israel essays.

Later on in the evening, parents joined their daughters for the second part of the program. Rabbi Oratz spoke with everyone about the role of the college guidance department and his role in writing letters of recommendation for every student. Moshe Korbman, college guidance counselor at Elizabeth High School and AP psychology teacher at Bruriah spoke about the benefits of an associate’s degree. Rabbi Menachem Schrader, founding director of the OU-Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus, explained the role of the OU-JLIC educators on secular college campuses and how they help students become leaders in forming orthodox communities on college campuses. After the formal presentations, parents and students had the opportunity to attend workshops and hear in-depth about the colleges in which they’re interested. The evening wrapped up with a college fair that included Barnard College, CUNY (City University of New York), Kean University, Lander College for Women, Montclair State University, NYSCAS- Touro College, Stern College For Women, Union County College and Rutgers University.
