Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

On December 1st, the Lightning built a 10-point half-time lead and increased it to 18 just 2:40 into the 3rd quarter. The team then increased the lead against Magen David’s defense and eventually led by 28 at the end of the 3rd, where it remained for the duration of the game.

Shayna Rosenzweig led the balanced scoring attack with 11 points. Avigayil Wiener (10), Talya Markowitz (8), Shira Alter (7), Ilana Markowitz (6), Orit Reiter (2), Rachel Eckstein (2), Elisheva Pfeiffer (2), and Rina Finkelstein (2) all scored. Freshmen Gila Alter and Sarina Wiederkehr provided the defensive spark.

Three days later, the Lightning took to the road to play Ilan and there again led the entire game. With the score 4-0 in the 1st, Bruriah busted it open by converting its good defense into productive offense to take a 21-11 lead into the half. The Lightning made a few defensive adjustments to open the 2nd half and for the remainder of the game played smart ball on both ends of the court. Ilan’s man-to-man defense and full court press did little to deter the Lightning. It was another show of teamwork and growth, especially from the younger players. Avigayil Wiener and Rina Finkelstein led the Lightning’s offense. Ilana Markowitz, Gila Alter, and Hindy Goldberg provided the defensive spark.

The Lighting are now 6-1 for the season.
