Bruriah Middle School Elections Bring Student Involvement

With elections on everyone’s minds, Bruriah’s Middle School has been buzzing with excitement. Candidates running for G.O. spent Tuesday and Wednesday campaigning, with their final pitch on Thursday in a short presentation. The enthusiasm, humor and innovative ideas presented were as diverse as the candidates themselves. As Shaindel Gelbfish, director of programming noted, “I am so proud of all our candidates who put time and energy into campaigning. It is so incredible to see their talent and creativity.” Whether a magic show, a song or a multimedia presentation, everyone was caught up in a whirlwind of election fever. Congratulations to the new G.O. members: Ella Keigher, Penina Ertel, Shayna Benkhen and Daniella Gluck.

Being part of the G.O. committee provides students with an opportunity to develop their leadership skills as they assist Gelbfish in planning and organizing trips and programs. Getting involved in extra-curricular and outreach opportunities is an integral component of Middle School, and Bruriah aims to provide a structure so that each student can get involved. Some examples are sports teams, Torah Bowl, newsletter, robotics, big sister program and food packaging. Zehava Greenwald, middle school assistant principal believes strongly that “When our girls get involved in these programs, it empowers them. They develop lifelong skills such as confidence, time-management, prioritization and collaboration. There is nothing more rewarding than watching students feel happy and good about themselves.”
