Teachers from Bruriah attended a three-day professional development summer run by The Idea Institute. The Summer Sandbox attracts educators to explore design thinking and project-based learning in a real and meaningful way by experiencing these processes. Margueya Poupko, chair of Bruriah’s English department said, “The sessions inspired me to help my students take ownership of their learning in a meaningful way. We witnessed firsthand how far our minds can go when given the space to think freely.” Bruriah teachers benefited from the peer collaboration and innovation, and the opportunity to learn current effective teaching strategies to help students engage with their learning in an authentic way. The assistant principal of Bruriah’s middle school said about Summer Sandbox, “I am looking forward to integrating the ideas that I learned at the Summer Sandbox in my classes. I love the focus on real world learning and strengthening of 21st century skills.”
