Camp Malchus to Open This Summer

Camp Malchus, the newest camp addition to Bergen County this summer, offers an exciting, active, and inspiring camp experience for boys finishing grades 3–7. Under the leadership of Rabbi Reuven Hoff, Camp Malchus has a sports and Torah learning environment where the boys are sure to be inspired both on and off the courts. A variety of sports with expert trainers is being offered. The camp places tremendous value on middos and sportsmanship. Camp Malchus has a superior senior and junior staff who love sports, demonstrate a love and respect for Torah and are committed to enriching the summer experiences of the boys.

Campers attending Malchus will have the luxury of being in an air-conditioned facility and swimming in a semi-Olympic-sized pool at the Teaneck Jewish Center. Sports will be hosted both on campus in the large indoor full-court basketball courts as well as on outdoor fields nearby. Choices of sport clinics are available for the different interests and abilities of the campers. The variety of sport and recreational activities offered includes basketball, hockey, football, baseball, and even ping pong. Additionally, special weekly entertainment like The Rocket Show and Basketball Stars will be a highlight for the boys.

Camp Malchus prides itself on offering a rich and hands-on learning experience twice a day. Learning about Safrus and applications of hilchos Shabbos will make Torah come alive, and “Guitar-Chulent-Onegs” will enhance every erev Shabbos. New to this summer, every Thursday will feature a “Late Night” with additional sports and the privilege of having Rav Moshe Tzvi Weinberg give divrei Torah v’chizuk and lead a ruach-filled kumzitz.

Rabbi Hoff, director, is a beloved mechanech who has a wide breadth of experience with children, with over two decades of involvement in camping and teaching. He has been involved in formal and informal education as he has held positions as youth director, head counselor, camp director, and classroom Rebbe. Rabbi Hoff’s students and campers greatly benefit from his warmth and excitement for all types of learning. He is passionate about education and has a sincere desire to bring out success in every child.

Camp Malchus’s Head Counselor is Rabbi Eytan London. Rabbi London currently teaches Gemara, Chumash and Mishna to students of the Westchester High School. In addition, he serves as director of all extracurricular athletics that take place at the school. He enjoys playing and teaching sports and develops strong relationships with his students. Camp Malchus is excited for Rabbi London to bring his talents and leadership to camp and be a terrific role model for all the boys.

Rabbi Moshe Tzvi Weinberg currently teaches in Yeshiva University’s Stone Beit Midrash Program, where he also serves as Mashgiach Ruchani. Rabbi Weinberg has worked as a Jewish educator for over 10 years, and has previously taught in local schools before joining the Yeshiva University faculty last fall. Additionally, Rabbi Weinberg offers a variety of weekly inspirational shiurim in the Teaneck and Bergenfield area. Camp Malchus looks forward to Rav Weinberg inspiring our campers and being part of their growth this summer.

Elissa Hochbaum, Director of Communications, currently teaches middle school girls in RYNJ. She enjoys working with adolescents and being part of the RYNJ community at large. Elissa has spent many summers at sleepaway camp and in local day camps. She is excited to take part in Camp Malchus, see the boys in action, and share their moments with the Malchus families.

Camp Malchus is located at the Teaneck Jewish Center at 70 Sterling Place. Camp begins July 27 and ends August 28. Camp hours are Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Friday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Rabbi Hoff is proud to offer the last week as an extended week past most other local day camps. The program is running for a total of five full weeks and discount pricing is offered if registering for multiple weeks.
