(Courtesy of Bergenfield Public Library) Area residents are invited to nominate candidates for the Bergenfield Library’s Board of Trustees Lucille Tendler Community Service Award. This award by the Board of Trustees of the Bergenfield Public Library recognizes an individual’s service to the Bergenfield community. Past winners of the award include Bergenfield residents Joe Verga, Matthew Connell, James Lodato, Joanne Thomas, Robert Armbruster, Anna Ramirez, Eva Gallione, Gerard Naylis and Linda Mohr.
Before relocating to North Carolina, Lucille Tendler served diligently on the Bergenfield Library’s Board of Trustees for 14 years, acting as president and secretary. This award is meant to honor her as a model for public service in a town that prides itself on volunteerism and civic engagement.
Members of the Board of Trustees may not nominate a candidate while serving on the Board. Nominees must be/have been a Bergenfield resident or active in a Bergenfield-based organization or group in the Bergenfield community. If the nominee no longer lives in the Bergenfield community, or is no longer active in a group serving the Bergenfield community, they must be nominated within two years of terminating their Bergenfield residency or terminating their association with the group. There are no age qualifications for the nominee, who may be any age, child to senior citizen.
All nominees within the past three years will be automatically considered for the 2024 award.
Nominations will be accepted until January 31, 2025. The recipient will be announced and presented with their award at a Library program in the spring of 2025.
