CCSA, which stands for Communities Confronting Substance Use and Addiction, is a dedicated organization committed to addressing the pervasive issue of substance abuse within the Jewish Community. Recently, representatives from CCSA visited Tenafly Chabad Academy, engaging with sixth, seventh and eighth graders in an informative session on prevention.
During the session, CCSA not only presented valuable information on the science of addiction but also facilitated a powerful and impactful experience by inviting individuals from the community who have struggled with substance abuse to share their personal stories. This approach aims to humanize the issue, fostering a deeper understanding among the students.
The speakers from the community courageously shared their journeys, providing real-world perspectives on the challenges and consequences of substance abuse. This firsthand account helped students grasp the gravity of the issue and its impact on individuals and their families.
In addition to sharing personal narratives, CCSA offered practical guidance on how to navigate challenging situations related to substance use. The organization equipped students with essential knowledge on recognizing the signs of addiction, understanding the science behind it and, most importantly, knowing how to respond when confronted with such difficulties.
By integrating personal stories, scientific insights and preventive strategies, CCSA not only raised awareness but also empowered students with the tools and understanding needed to make informed decisions and contribute to the well-being of their community. The visit served as a crucial step in fostering a proactive and compassionate approach towards confronting substance use and addiction within the school and the broader Jewish community.
