The Dor L’Dor Group at Congregation Ahavath Torah. 240 Broad Avenue, Englewood, is pleased to announce their annual pre-Purim Lunch and Learn program, scheduled to take place at the synagogue on Monday, March 10 at noon.
Guest speaker for the program will be Englewood resident Dr. Monique (Nicky) Katz. She will speak on “Purim, Women and Megillah.” Dr. Katz, former director of Atchley Radiology at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and associate professor of clinical radiology at Columbia University, has authored multiple publications and has lectured extensively.
Concurrently with her professional career, Dr. Katz has studied Torah for many years and has applied her analytical skills to these studies. A life-long learner, Monique Katz exemplifies the melding and pursuit of Torah U’Madda. She graciously shared her knowledge by leading Shabbat learning classes for women in Englewood.
Dr. Katz and her late husband, Mordecai Katz, used their philanthropy to further the expansion of Torah U’Madda both here and in Israel. They endowed Yeshiva University with the Katz School of Science and Health and The Mordecai and Monique Katz Associate Degree Programs. In addition, they funded the Katz Academic Building at the Frisch school, the Katz Engineering and International Studies buildings at bar Ilan University, as well as other institutions. The Katz family is indefatigable in promoting opportunities for others to be imbued with Jewish knowledge and values and the transmission of those qualities to future generations.
The pre-Purim program will begin with a selection of music by violinist Stephanie Kurtzman, who is a performer and teacher of classical and Jewish music. She plays with many Jewish bands and artists, teaches in schools and privately, and has worked in therapeutic music sessions.
A delicious buffet lunch will be served.
