Chabad Helps in Ukraine

I would like to thank Harry Glazer for publishing the vast numbers of organizations in our community that have been galvanized to support the relief effort in Ukraine (“Jewish Community Reacts to Russia’s Assault on Ukraine” March 20, 2022). However, I was puzzled that Chabad was left off that list. There is no Jewish organization in the world with as long-standing and pervasive a presence as Chabad in Ukraine and in the Former Soviet Union. We all have read numerous stories of shluchim (emissaries) who have worked tirelessly to supply food, medicine and other resources to their congregations and others in need. Because of their connections within both Ukraine and neighboring countries, shluchim have been the ones primarily responsible for rescuing thousands of our brothers and sisters and shuttling them to safety. They have been so effective because there are 200-plus shluchim in over 30 cities and towns throughout Ukraine. Yes, donate to all those great organizations Mr. Glazer mentioned. However, if I am looking to be sure that funds are getting into the hands of people who need it the most, as quickly as possible, I personally am looking to Chabad to make that happen. You can visit chabad.org to donate to their Ukraine Jewish Relief Fund.
