Dozens of Chabad of Yonkers members, their families and friends, and many who have various connections with Rabbi Mendy Hurwitz recently celebrated his 39th birthday. This was the 15th year that he welcomed the community to enjoy his birthday with a lavish kosher barbecue, French fries, watermelon, cotton candy, cold drinks and of course birthday cake for dessert.

Rabbi Hurwitz happily presided over the hot grill for hours, feeding dozens of people who took refuge in the shade of the synagogue’s trees or, for a few, in the synagogue’s air conditioning.

Westchester County Executive George Latimer and Assemblyman Nader Sayegh both spoke of their friendships with, respect for and many meetings with Rabbi Mendy, noting the many ways that he seeks to deepen people’s joy, happiness and connection with each other.
