Chanukah Giving That Counts

Most of our children are excited about the prospect of receiving gifts on Chanukah. That’s the easy part. What we should also pass on to our offspring at this time of year is the wonderful feeling of giving to someone else in need. How amazing it would be if we all put aside one night of Chanukah to do just that? In Israel, this year especially, there are several organizations that would be delighted to accept our donations.

Check out PizzaIDF.com and see the faces of the young chayalim when they receive their treats. For so many children living under the poverty line in Israel, look into Tikvah Hope. We can never forget the lives of those in Sderot. Another possibility would be Shelter Me Sderot.

Yad Sarah accommodates every type of need for those with disabilities. Visitors arriving in Israel are able to prearrange any medical equipment they might need while visiting our homeland.

Yashar LaChayal provides soldiers on the front lines in Israel with needed supplies such as winter gear. They can be reached at yasharlachayal.org.

Let your children be aware of their good fortune when you explain to them the number of children who are living in Emunah homes, away from their families. It is easily accessible online, by going to the Emunah website.

The organization you eventually choose is irrelevant; there are so many deserving choices. It is primarily the idea that, at a time when we are so fortunate to live in this amazing community, that there are those in Israel whom we need to assure that they are not alone.
