It all began with a request by Yitzchak Brander, 18, a former community member who together with his family made aliyah five years ago. Some excerpts of his email follow:
“Hi! My name is Yitzchak Brander and I live in Yerushalayim. I understand that people outside of Israel are looking for ways to show support to their brothers and sisters in Israel. Might I suggest the following way to focus attention on the atrocities going on in Gaza, which I think would be easily attainable in the Teaneck-Bergenfield communities as well as all of the other surrounding areas. It would be great if families and individuals would post lawn signs in front of their homes with pictures of some of the hostages who were abducted.”
It took only a few minutes for the wheels of motion to begin and immediately a committee of women got together to fulfill Yitzchak’s wish in spreading the word. Lawn signs are now found in front of many homes. The response has been amazing and a second printing has begun. Flags are available by contacting [email protected]
