Congratulations to Our New Leadership

I wish a warm mazal tov to Mayor Mendy Schwartz and First Deputy Mayor Karen Orgen on their new leadership positions. Their positions are well deserved, and reflective of their eminent qualifications for their respective positions.

I further call on all members of council to strengthen the general spirit of unity which prevailed at the reorganization. As Deputy Mayor Katz, a man to whom our entire community is indebted beyond words for three decades of ongoing service, so eloquently stated from the dais, unity is the key to our success as a township.

All council members have a great deal to contribute to the township when a spirit of true unity prevails. I look forward to working with all council members in the years ahead, and wish congratulations to Second Deputy Mayor Denise Belcher on her new position.

Our entire community remains deeply indebted to Bergen County Jewish Action Committee (BCJAC) and its tireless leadership, for all of their efforts. It was entirely fitting that President Emma Horowitz would affirm Mayor Schwartz on this auspicious evening, as both BCJAC and our elected officials play such instrumental roles in the wellbeing of our community.

I further wish a warm mazal tov to our new board of education trustee, Jenni Levy, whose leadership will benefit all children in Teaneck, and will bring outstanding representation to our community. I look forward to working with Jenni and all of her fellow trustees.

While we have made great strides in the last 14 months, in large measure due to the efforts of BCJAC, it is crucial that the community remain fully engaged in the weeks and months ahead. We cannot allow recent successes to create a sense of complacency.

Together, we can ensure that Teaneck continues to be a welcoming and wonderful home for its Jewish community, and all of its residents.
