In conjunction with their study of the State of Israel, the 10th grade, along with some of their parents and grandparents, welcomed Dr. Moshe Avital to school. Dr. Avital survived Auschwitz and numerous other camps and came into Palestine illegally after World War II. After being freed from a British detention camp, he quickly joined the Haganah and fought in the War of Independence. Students learned about his experiences fighting in Jerusalem as it was besieged for months by Arab forces.
