Edison Native Advances in IDF

The Highland Park/Edison Jewish community is deeply proud of all its young members who make aliyah and serve in the IDF. One of the most recently promoted chayal bodeds hailing from the area is Sylvie Culang, daughter of Sara and Jay Culang of Edison. Jay is the co-president of Congregation Ahavas Yisrael in Edison.

Sylvie initially served as an officer in the air force and in the summer of 2023 moved to the IDF Spokespersons’ Unit, where she serves as a welfare counselor and assists soldiers with financial or social problems at home.

Sylvie Culang, right, receives congratulations from Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, head spokesperson of the IDF.

In April, Sylvie participated in a tekes (military ceremony) to honor and recognize lone soldiers, at which she received congratulations from Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, head spokesperson of the IDF.

Sylvie intends to complete her military service and then start an academic program in the fall at Bezalel School of Art and Design, working toward a degree in visual communications. She lives in Herzliya with three other lone soldiers.

Harry Glazer is the Middlesex County Editor of The Jewish Link. He can be reached at [email protected] and he invites your feedback. Harry is awed by the drive and dedication of lone soldiers in the IDF.
