Maayan Holds Inaugural Shabbat Services

Maayan is a group of individuals and families in West Orange who have joined together to build a spiritual, halachic, inclusive and inspiring Jewish community. An Open Orthodox shul, Maayan blends observance of ritual traditions with inclusiveness and a warm, welcoming atmosphere that regards women as a vital part of the religious community.

Maayan’s inaugural Shabbat was held on May 15 and 16. Friday evening drew over thirty people and Shabbat morning services drew a standing-room-only crowd of over fifty. The melodic and inspiring davening included joyous singing from both sides of the mechitza, and on Shabbat morning was followed by a delicious Kiddush.

On Sunday, May 17, Maayan’s Rabbi Geretz led a pre-Shavuot Torah learning program on the topic of “How Did our Patriarchs and Matriarchs Observe the Torah Before Matan Torah?” For more information on other upcoming services and classes being given by Maayan, including Shavuot, please visit their website, www.maayan-nj.org, or find them on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/maayannj.
