The explosion of antisemitism since the brutal Hamas attack on October 7 highlights an uncomfortable truth—that all Jews are now in the line of fire. Gentiles do not distinguish between levels of observance: Chassidim, Orthodox, Conservative, Reform or non observant Jews. All are just Jews; Whether Israeli Jews, American Jews, French Jews, all are the same. Black Ethiopian-Jews are no different than blond Norwegian Jews. To “progressive liberals,” all these are oppressors of the oppressed masses of “color.” Jews in schools at all levels and positions are harassed or worse, and in many firms they are afraid to speak openly anymore. Jewish owned businesses, shul, and centers are now routinely vandalized or shot at. Recall that on October 7 a Hamas terrorist excitedly called his mother and told her that he had killed his first Jew. He did not say Israeli; he said Jew.
It is ironic that to contemplate that to racist gentiles, an observant U.S. Senator like Lieberman may be no different than a self-hating Jew like Bernie Sanders, and a pro-Israel tycoon like Robert Kraft may be the same as an anti-Israel Jew like George Soros. Very simply, to gentiles they are all Jews and thus should all be eliminated.
In the face of these dangers, Jews themselves must organize better, and protest and demonstrate more. The march on Washington on November 15, 2023 was a great event and show of unity. However, it was only a one-time event, with no follow-up, and in the crush of constant new developments, it is rarely mentioned anymore. Meanwhile our adversaries constantly demonstrate, organize and dominate the biased media coverage, as well as the streets and the classrooms. Jews must do more, a lot more, to continue to survive in an increasingly turbulent ocean of hate.
Lest this seem like an idle threat, so many commentaries compare October 7 with the Holocaust, where ultimately no Jew, irrespective of his wealth, position or influence, was spared from the gas chamber.
Remember that “Never Again” is only a slogan, not a guarantee.
