Explore Creative Arts At the Kaplen JCC

The Kaplen JCC on the Palisades is pleased to offer a large roster of classes taught by credentialed professionals, designed to give people the opportunity to develop their intellectual and creative talents.

New! Jewelry Making

Maya Oren-Dahan, owner of Maya Crafts, will be teaching a class on jewelry making. Students will learn fundamental techniques like bead stringing, wire looping and knotting, to create unique multi-functional necklaces and bracelets. Beginner and intermediate students are welcome. Additional materials fee $25. Meets four Mondays, October 28-November 18, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Cost: $100 for JCC members/$120 public.

Explorations in Water-Media: A Fluid Approach on Yupo

Experience the joy of watercolor and fluid acrylics on Yupo, a popular synthetic surface that expands artistic boundaries and offers the freedom to express oneself with style with ease. The class will explore the magic of these shimmering mediums and celebrate their fluid and expressive qualities. Class emphasis will be placed on encouraging and developing new ways to approach painting, using inventive and risk-taking techniques. Open to beginners and more experienced artists.

Four Wednesdays, October 2-30 (no class 10/9), 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Cost: $120 JCC members/$150 public.

Acrylic Painting

Discover the amazing versatility and ease of painting with acrylics, while exploring a wide range of techniques from thick, luscious brush strokes to fluid and transparent washes. Personal and individual expression is encouraged, with emphasis on composition and color use. Open to beginners and more experienced painters. Meets Tuesdays, 1-3:30 p.m. Call or see website for prices, as extended sessions offered.

Intermediate Knitting

Bring your current projects to this group class for help with tricky techniques and dropped stitches, adjustments to patterns, and social knitting with other talented knitters. Crocheters welcome, too!

Six Wednesdays, October 16-November 20, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Cost: $135 JCC members/$170 public.
