Fair Lawn Jewish Day Camp Offers Fun and Yiddishkeit for Campers

Campers, staff and elected officials.

(Courtesy of Bris Avrohom) Last week, the annual group photo of Fair Lawn Jewish Day Camp, under the auspices of Bris Avrohom Fair Lawn, was taken with the campers, staff and Bergen County elected officials taking part. The Fair Lawn Jewish Day Camp consists of over 300 campers as well as many staff members who come from 30 different towns in Bergen County.

Campers enjoy an amazing camp experience with daily swimming, trips three times a week, many overnight trips and hot lunches. The children are provided with maximum enjoyment as well as relaxation by their trained and dedicated counselors under the leadership of Rabbi Mendel and Elky Zaltzman.

Elected officials holding proclamations. Seated (l-r): Commissioner Mary Amoroso, Councilwoman Nathalie Marin, Commissioner Dr. Joan Voss, County Executive James Tedesco, Commissioner Rafael Marte, Sheriff Anthony Cureton. Standing (l-r): representative of Rep. Josh Gottheimer; Rabbi Mordechai and Shterney Kanelsky; Elke Zaltzman; Rabbi Mendel Zaltzman; Mark Rekhtman, Bris Avrohom board member; Isaac Frankel, chaplain.

The majority of the children are not yet attending Jewish day schools, and the camp gives them an opportunity to learn and explore the Jewish holidays both in theory and with tangible arts and crafts. They also learn the alef bet and brachot, and they receive a strong sense of Jewish pride. The Zaltzmans, along with the devoted staff, give the children daily support and love of Yiddishkeit.

The camp opened 17 years ago with just 50 campers and grew to become a very successful and educational camp. The elected officials of Bergen County made the effort to attend the photo session and they presented proclamations in honor of the camp.
