Film Course at RKYHS Explores Israeli Culture

The Ivrit department at RKYHS has launched a new Israeli film course tailored for seniors. Over the course of two months, students are delving into the rich tapestry of Israeli culture, grappling with themes ranging from the intricacies of Jewish identity to the complexities of Israeli society. Through a selection of films in Hebrew, students will gain insights into the multifaceted layers of Israeli life, including exploring yeshivot Hesder and the intertwining of tradition, faith and patriotism in Israeli society; dilemmas surrounding Jewish identity including struggles of assimilation to the complexities of religious observance in a modern world.

Through discussions, assignments and learning in chevruta with teachers from different divisions, students have the opportunity to unpack the themes and motifs present in each film. RKYHS is excited about this cinematic journey through Israel as students deepen their understanding of a complex and vibrant society, coming away with a greater appreciation for Israeli culture.
