Frisch Girls Win Glouberman

Frisch girls Glouberman champs.

They got their upgrade! After coming up short in the Glouberman finals for the past two years, the Frisch varsity girls basketball team won the 10th annual Steve Glouberman z”l tournament championship for the first time in school history. The Cougars started off the tournament dominating their first two games against RASG and KYHS winning both games by a large margin.

The next day, Frisch faced off against Flatbush in the quarterfinals and after a nice win went to face off the Shalhevet Firehawks in their home gym in the semifinals for the ultimate redemption game. The Firehawks came out in a tight man defense but that didn’t stop the tournament MVP Zoey Levy ‘26 from dribbling through the defense to get layup after layup. Evelyn Fried ‘26 continued her great contributions to the tournament with her clutch shots and disruptive defense all throughout the game. Gaby Hoffer ’26 came off the bench and hit two huge three pointers to stop the Shalhevet momentum just before halftime. After a tough loss last year to Shalhevet by six points in the finals, Frisch came back this year and ultimately won the game by six.

Frisch headed into Shabbos with an undefeated 4-0 record. Saturday night was the true test for the Cougars when they went head-to-head with the SAR Sting in the championship. Frisch started off the game strong, ending the first quarter with a solid 15-2 lead with the help of the Frisch boys varsity team cheering them on. The Cougars continued their dominance with some big time 3-pointers by Atara Forman ‘25 and Izzy Nadritch ‘26. Orli Scharf ’26 provided fantastic minutes on the defensive end, helping to hold SAR to 9 points in the first half. The Frisch girls went into the second half with a commanding 27-9 lead, but SAR came out strong and started to chip away at Frisch’s lead. Sarah Silver ’26 forced an unprecedented eight jump balls off of rebounds against a much taller opponent. Ultimately the strong effort of SAR wasn’t enough to stop the very talented Frisch girls. The final buzzer sounded with a Cougar victory of 46-36 and the team celebrated the school’s first girls Glouberman championship.

Frisch and SAR line up together for the National Anthem.

The Frisch varsity girls basketball team is looking at a great season ahead of them! The Frisch School thanks Shalhevet and the Glouberman family for hosting this amazing tournament. Special thanks to Frisch coaches Samantha Engelhardt and Tali Zelenetz, who is now the only coach to have won Glouberman for two different schools (SAR and Frisch)! We can’t wait to come again next year!
