Gallup Poll Shows Increase in Jewish-American Support For Republicans

(JNS.org) A recent poll conducted by Gallup found a steady increase of American Jews identifying as Republican and a decrease in support for Democrats. According to the survey–which was conducted from Jan. 2 to Dec. 30, 2014, among 4,116 Jewish adults–29% of American Jews are Republican, up from 22% in 2008, while 61% of Jews are Democrats, down from 71% seven years ago. The survey also found that support for the GOP was higher among Jewish men than women, and also higher among religiously observant Jews.

“This poll reinforces what we have seen at the voting booth, the GOP continues to make inroads with Jewish voters,” Matt Brooks, executive director of the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC), said in a statement. “Republicans have gained support in the Jewish community in five of the last six national elections. The RJC has worked over past election cycles to increase Jewish support for Republicans, helping Mitt Romney get 31% of the Jewish vote up from 22% in 2008. We are encouraged by the trend and the continued inroads the GOP is making with the Jewish community.”
