Glatt Kosher Food Fest at NY Yankees Triple-A Stadium in Scranton

The annual Jewish Food Festival in Scranton, PA, will be held on Sunday, August 21, at PNC Field, home of the Scranton/WB RailRiders, the NY Yankees Triple-A affiliate.

Organized by Chabad in northeastern Pennsylvania, the free-admission event features kosher food concessions, crafts, vendors and live music, and will be located near the main entrance of the RailRiders ballpark, PNC Field. The RailRiders will be taking on the Boston Red Sox affiliate from Pawtucket, Rhode Island, age-old rivals of the Yankees. The game begins at 1:05 p.m.

The newly renovated stadium sits nestled at the foot of Montage Mountain just off Interstate 81, and has attracted thousands since its complete redesign in 2013. Originally built in 1989, the multi-purpose stadium underwent a $40 million renovation that completely reinvented the park. The upper deck was removed while the concourse and stands were redesigned to offer patrons a variety of family-friendly seating options from which to choose, such as tiered picnic areas and lawn seating—all of which are just feet from the action on the field.

Outside the stadium, the area has lots to offer locals and visitors alike. Shoppes at Montage outdoor mall overlooking the ballpark promises shopping heaven with over 50 retailers. Drive up the road and you’ll find Montage Mountain Ski Resort and Waterpark with year-round outdoor recreation. The Montage Pavilion Amphitheater next door hosts summer concerts with a capacity of 16,000.

The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders have teamed up with the Jewish Food Fest to offer a special family 4-pack deal! Package includes four field-reserve tickets, four kids fun-zone passes, a RailRiders pitcher and cup set and $20 in FestCash. Tickets include RailRiders player’s autographs and kids can run the bases after the game. Retail value $130. On sale now for only $60!

Want to tour the area but don’t want to leave the park? Climb aboard an authentic 1932 trolley for a 50-minute scenic trip through the countryside and into the City of Scranton. Trolley leaves directly from the Jewish Food Fest at 12:45 p.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets are limited; kids 3 and under are free.

The kosher food concessions at the stadium entrance will accept cash, and credit and debit cards, and will be open 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Menu will feature an assortment of traditional “Jewish favorites” such as corned beef on rye, stuffed cabbage, potato knishes, sweet and savory kugel and more. Lovers of Israeli food will enjoy falafel and shwarma made fresh on site as well as the popular “schnitzel” sandwich served on a kaiser roll with potato salad or coleslaw. An American-style grill offers glatt-kosher hot dogs, sausages, Moroccan burgers and more, while a dessert station with chocolate babka, rugelach and apple strudel will complement the celebration of Jewish food.

The Jewish rock/folk improv band “Chillent” will perform a free concert, and live musicians from the Nikolayev Kapeliah will play throughout the day.
