Gotham Burger Sportstar of the Week Alex Fuchs

The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Gotham Burger would like to recognize Alex Fuchs as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The 18-year-old was a captain of the Ma’ayanot varsity hockey team and an outstanding offensive and defensive player, scoring in almost every game. Unbelievably, Alex was also captain of the volleyball and softball teams at Ma’ayanot. Teammate Rebecca Malech told the JLNJ, “Not only does Alex make outstanding plays but she creates new opportunities for her teammates to score. She has always been a team leader.”

JLNJ spent time with Alex Fuchs:

Alex who is one of your role models?

My role model is my father, Mo Fuchs. Aside from being a terrific athlete and coach, my dad is without a doubt one of the wisest people I know. He spends every minute of his life being the best person he can be. Every day I learn something new from him and I love and respect him incredibly.

Who’s your favorite professional athlete?

My favorite athlete would have to be Henrik Lundqvist (not just because I’m a huge Ranger fan). He may be well known for his superb goaltending skills, but I mainly admire him for his actions off the ice. He spends a large portion of his time doing charity work and helping others. I find it incredible that he is so modest despite his fame as an all-star athlete.

Do you have a pregame ritual?

I don’t have much of a pregame routine actually. All I do before games is listen to my two pump-up songs repeatedly, “Jungle” by Jamie N. Commons and “Cinderella Man” by Eminem. Music really can make a huge impact on my mood and playing intense music before games makes me intense as well.

What is your earliest sports memory?

The earliest sports memory I have is from softball in the first grade. I happened to have picked up hitting very easily as a child, and I remember this one time I hit the ball to the outfield and one parent called out, “Someone check that girl for steroids!” That was probably the greatest compliment I have ever received.

Do you have a favorite sports memory?

My favorite sports memory was winning the varsity volleyball championship in 11th grade because that was when I became the first athlete in Ma’ayanot history to win a championship in three varsity sports.

What do you like to do, when you are not playing for the Rapids?

When I’m not playing sports I’m usually hanging out with either my friends or my family, but very often that also involves either watching or playing sports.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

The best part about being a Sportstar is being able to be a part of such amazing teams filled with awesome athletes and coaches. Every player on each team bonds with each other and becomes one unit. We all have an amazing time playing not only because we love the sport we are playing, but because we love those whom we are playing it with.

The Gotham Burger Sportstar of the Week will receive a $10 gift certificate to Gotham Burger. Please send nominees for next week’s Gotham Burger Sportstar of the Week to [email protected].
