The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Gotham Burger would like to recognize 17-year-old Frisch Defenseman Michael Rubin as this week’s Sportstar of the week.
Rubin is having a terrific season for the 4-4 Varsity Cougars. When asked about Rubin, Coach Aaron Shlagbaum told the JLNJ, “Mike is every coach’s dream player. Not only is he one of the best defenseman in yeshiva hockey, he is leader on and off the floor. He is respected and loved by his teammates. He’s a mensch with a booming shot from the point.”
Michael, who is one of your favorite athletes?
Derek Jeter because over his 19-year career as a Yankee he was the most humble and respected player on and off the field.
Do you have a special pregame meal?
Smoked turkey and roast beef on rye from Petak’s.
What is your favorite sports memory?
Beating TABC last season since Frisch hadn’t beaten TABC in years.
What can we find you doing when you are not playing sports?
Golfing and playing Madden with my friends.
What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
Being able to represent my school by playing for the team.
