Heaven and Earth: An Artistic Interpretation, Is Theme of Exhibit at the Belskie Museum

Fred Spinowitz and Sheryl Intrator Urman.

Over 45 works of art on the theme Heaven and Earth: An Artistic Interpretation are on exhibit through September 29 in a juried show at The Belskie Museum, in Closter, New Jersey. The 34 artists selected for the juried exhibition submitted statements connecting their artwork to the theme as part of the judging process. The entries represent a wide range of approaches including religious, narrative and abstract art. The materials are as diversified as the subjects: paint on canvas, works on metal and glass, sculpture, collage and photography.

Three paintings were given awards by the judges: First place, North Star Sunrise by Leah Tomaino; second place, Break Through the Clouds by Mary Guidetti-McCall; and third place, Our Prayer by Natalia Kadish.

Natalia Kadish of Teaneck, daughter of master illustrator Laszlo Kubinyi, has taught art at Ma’ayanot High School for Girls and is the founder and director of the Elevated Space Studios, where she conducts workshops that promote and stimulate creativity for all ages. Her painting, Our Prayer, is a response to the tragedy of October 7.

The show is being produced by Sheryl Intrator Urman of Englewood and Fred Horowitz of Westchester. They have worked together for over 14 years curating shows in New York and New Jersey. Their goal is to give artists more exposure for their work and attract viewers with an experience for the eyes and the intellect. The signature concept for an Urman and Spinowitz exhibit is to give artists a broad theme that they interpret with visual and written narratives.

Urman and Spinowitz exhibits include talks by the artists to further art education, and opportunities for nonprofits to visit or hold their own events in conjunction with the show, where a portion of the proceeds from any art sold are donated to the sponsoring organization.

Urman has several of her own art works on view in the exhibit. In addition to being a curator and an artist, she has taught art to children for many years through her company Art for Learning, and gives lectures to adult groups often in conjunction with exhibits in New York museums.

The Heaven and Earth Exhibit can be viewed from 2-4 p.m. on Sundays through September 29 at the Belskie Museum of Art and Science, 280 High Street, Closter. For more information about the exhibition, the schedule for Artist Talks or to reserve a time to bring a school or senior citizens group to the show, contact Urman at [email protected].
