Five-and-a-half months ago, on October 7, thousands of Hamas terrorists infiltrated Israel and committed brutal attacks against innocent citizens. The heavens were streaked with light, as tens of thousands of deadly rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip toward Israeli cities in the south, initiating the Iron Swords War. Simultaneously, Hezbollah attacked on the northern front, instilling terror and uncertainty in the hearts of Israelis everywhere. Over 200,000 residents of Israel’s south fled to the central district, abandoning their homes and leaving ghost towns, and another 16 settlements on the Lebanese border were evacuated of their residents.
Within the framework of its massive charity and help activities, Maimonides Way founded a special project to grant assistance and support to evacuees in the cities of Holon, Bat Yam and Rishon Lezion which all opened centers to support refugees from Israel’s south. The charitable assistance provided by these centers includes payment of rent for temporary housing; distribution of food and staples; vouchers for clothing, shoes and more.
Ironically, the focus of the war has been the south, yet in many cases, the harsh reality facing residents of Israel’s north is far worse. Over 100,000 residents have been evacuated to hotels, where life has turned into a nightmare. In an attempt to meet the needs of the suffering residents, centers were also established in Haifa, Hadera, Tiberias, Afula and Beit Shean, but the assistance they can provide is minimal. The majority of northern settlements are agricultural, and the residents support themselves from the yield of their crops. Traveling to the fields and farms in the north is life-threatening, and the damage caused by the farmers’ inability to tend to the crops and cattle is unfathomable. According to data published by the Ministry of Economy and Industry, the damage incurred by the Israeli economy throughout this war has surpassed 20 billion shekels.
At Maimonides Way, intensive efforts are underway to prepare for the upcoming Maos Chitim charity distribution which will be taking place in all of the above-mentioned cities. In addition to a massive distribution of Pesach products, we will also be funding distributions of clothing and shoes to the needy and Israeli evacuees who have lost their livelihoods.
We are turning to you with a heartfelt plea to please assist our efforts to support, bring light to the lives of thousands of evacuees who have been forced out of their homes in Israel’s north and south, and allow them to celebrate Pesach with joy and peace of mind.
