The Hebrew Institute of Riverdale, the Bronx, welcomed more than 100 people to its annual free Thanksgiving meal last week. A thoughtful Rosh Chodesh service included beautiful nigunim, and invited people to share their thoughts about how and why to give thanks and to whom, and their best hopes for the future. A full menu of soup, rolls, salad, delicious roast turkey with gravy, stuffing, roast vegetables and apple pie was served following the service.
For more than a decade, the Bayit has welcomed members of the synagogue, the community and beyond to its annual free Thanksgiving meal. Teams of volunteers set up, prepared food, served and cleaned up, bringing joy and warmth to members of the Bayit community.
The Bayit also hosts “Abraham and Sarah’s Tent,” a weekly Friday night Shabbat meal, which is generously subsidized by a legacy gift from Josef Guttman in memory of his wife Goldie and son Henry.
