On Monday, the IDF announced the confirmed deaths of two Israeli hostages in the Gaza Strip. Alex Dancyg, 76, and Yagev Buchshtav, 35, were believed to have been held in Khan Younis where they died several months ago. The IDF is investigating the possibility that they were killed by Israeli fire.
Dancyg, a Polish-Israeli child of Holocaust survivors, was a farmer and historian from Kibbutz Nir Oz, and worked at Yad Vashem for about 30 years. During his captivity he gave history lectures to fellow hostages, according to the Hostages Families Forum. Just yesterday he turned 76.
Buchshtav was abducted from Kibbutz Nirim with his wife Rimon, who was returned as part of a hostage deal in November. Together they cared for five dogs and five cats. The couple loved music, and Yagev was a musician and soundman who built his own instruments.
