Is She In or Is She Out?

Dear Shayna B.,

We love reading your column every Friday night and love getting your advice. We have a dilemma of our own. We are a group of three best friends and we hang out every Shabbat, but there is one girl in our community who always wants to hang out with us. We really don’t like her so much and she’s a bit annoying and follows us around everywhere. What should we do? Let her hang out with us and be annoyed or risk hurting her feelings by not letting her hang out with us? We hope that you can give us your advice.

Sincerely,
The Three Musketeers

Dear The Three Musketeers,

I know that she might be annoying, but honestly, I think if you guys let her in she will be less annoying because she’ll feel like she doesn’t have to follow you guys around, feeling unwanted; she’s wanted, so she’ll take a step back. I know you guys probably are a little annoyed, but seriously, imagine yourself in her shoes. You need friends, you’ve found a cool group, and they are … you. Now I will leave it up to you to decide whether to let her in or not.

This week my joke will be one you can tell to your friends, new and old:

Did you hear about the actor who fell through the floorboards? He was just going through a stage.

If after telling your new friend a joke this corny she still wants to stay friends with you then she’s a keeper, but I have a feeling you might have just solved your problem.

Best of luck,
Shayna B.
