JCC MetroWest to Partner With ReelAbilities: Montclair for Film Screenings

The JCC MetroWest will be hosting four films from the ReelAbilities: Montclair film festival. On opening night, October 30, it will show two films about photography that were either made by or about individuals with special needs.

ReelAbilities: Montclair is part of the largest disability film festival in the country and is dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of the lives, stories and artistic expressions of people with different abilities. Join the JCC MetroWest as they partner with ReelAbilities: Montclair to feature cutting-edge and sometimes controversial films that challenge assumptions and promote discussion about ability and disability.

On October 30 at 5 p.m., Shooting Beauty will be shown. This film tells the story of fashion photographer Courtney Bent whose career takes an unexpected turn when she discovers a hidden world of beauty at a center for people living with significant disabilities. Following the film, a second film will be shown. On Beauty tells the story of photographer Rick Guidotti, who left the fashion world and re-focused his lens on those too often relegated to the shadows.

Following the films there will be a post-screening discussion and complimentary photo shoot for ticket holders. Availability is limited. Please call to reserve.

The next film in the series will be shown on November 3 at 7 p.m. 2E: Twice Exceptional is a documentary that follows the personal journeys of a group of high school students who have been identified as “twice exceptional.”

Finally, on November 5 at 7:30 p.m., the JCC will show A Bling Hero: The Love of Otto Weidt. This docudrama tells the story of a blind factory owner, Otto Weidt, and his efforts to save his Jewish employees from the Nazis.

Tickets may be purchased for JCC MetroWest screenings at www.boxofficetickets.com/jccmetrowest. Tickets are $5 per screening or a $12 package that includes a ticket to each film.
