Brachot are a perfect lens through which children can learn—they explore the food they eat, where it comes from and Hashem’s role in the world. JEC Early Childhood students understand and appreciate each and every bracha they say by exploring the process of how they come to have those foods. This week, the children learned all about the bracha of hamotzi and how Hashem brings forth bread from the ground to the table. As they looked at how grains are ground, harvested, milled and baked into bread, they were amazed at all the many details that need to be just right. The culminating activity was a special Early Childhood challah bake! Their Shabbat tables will be graced with challah that they can appreciate as they say the bracha with true kavana.
