On Tuesday night, the JEC JV Thunder hockey team entered the Lions’ den for an important divisional matchup.
It was MTA that got on the board first three minutes into the second period when a centering pass took an unfortunate carom off the leg of sophomore defenseman Ben-Zion Kapustin to beat an otherwise stellar Dov Weitz in net. That unfortunate deflection would be all that managed to elude Dov for the rest of the evening as he was extremely sharp in net, withstanding a red-hot MTA power play late in the second period, while giving JEC plenty of time to get their offense roaring.
That rolling thunder began as Josh Krause gave a beautiful pass to Dovid Rozehzadeh who scored to tie the game at one. Rozehzadeh then returned the favor one minute later with some strong play behind the net, finding Krause in front with a great pass for the second goal, closing out the second period with a slim 2-1 lead.
As the third period began, the Thunder continued to build their lead with Rozehzadeh scoring two more quick goals to cap off his third hat-trick of the season. Soon after, Netanel Schmutter took a great pass from Shemaryahu Butler on the left side of the net and roofed one passed the MTA net-minder. With a commanding four goal lead, and the solid defensive pairing of Aaron Silver and BenZion Kapustin, JEC had no problems riding out the rest of the game, as Rozehzadeh tallied his fourth goal on a late breakaway.
In the end it was a solid team wide effort, one that saw contributions from every player. The JV Thunder roll forward with a record of 5-1.c
