Three years have elapsed since the passing of Mr. Sam Halpern, Shemaryahu ben Mordechai Dov, a”h, yet the memory of the innocent strains of children’s voices as they recited the birkat hamazon juxtaposed with the poignant eulogy for Sam remains vivid for many.

This week, as his third yartzeit was observed, the JEC remembered and honored Sam with a full day of learning dedicated to his memory and as a merit for his soul.

All three JEC divisions—The JEC Lower School, Rav Teitz Mesivta Academy (RTMA) and Bruriah High School— featured special presentations by their principals and teachers through which they shared with students information about Sam, his miraculous survival of the Holocaust and his tremendous passion for Jewish education and everlasting contribution as a most generous supporter of the JEC and many other Jewish institutions.
