“Though some things may be different, we’re children just the same!” As children in Primer learned about their unique qualities, they also learned to recognize that while every person is different, we are also all the same—“and we all like to sing and play!” These lyrics were the opening to the children’s fabulous journey around the world. Way back in September, Primer children began a social studies unit that took them across the continents. They learned all about children in different countries—the foods they eat, the languages they speak, the places they visit and their toys and games.
As a culmination of their learning the children prepared a musical presentation followed by a world’s fair! The children sang and danced their way through the countries and parents were invited to visit the different countries their children learned about. Children dressed in traditional clothing offered samples of the country’s foods and shared a display of famous landmarks and fun facts. Each country had a souvenir (crafted by the children) for parents to take when they left to visit the next country. At the end, parents collected a very special suitcase and unique book, filled with recipes, pictures and memories of the children’s learning experience. As the Primer children flip through the pages of this book, they are sure to remember the message of inclusion and acceptance.
